A Bibliometric Analysis of Ophthalmology, Medicine, and Surgery Journals: Comparing Citation Metrics and International Collaboration

Objective: To evaluate SCImago’s top ranked ophthalmology journals, comparing them with the medical and surgical journals. Methods: Data over 20 years was extracted for top-ranked ophthalmology, 5 medical, journals based on SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR). Trends in SJR, self-citations, external citations per document, uncited documents, international collaboration, total were identified. ANCOVA analysis utilized to further characterize average trends time between medicine, surgery. Results Discussion: The fields of then surgery had highest SJR while surgery, h-indices. Medicine 1.01 cited article, compared 0.54 0.43 Percent self-citation 5.9% 5.0% 0.56% medicine; however, self-citations article International collaboration (19.14%) (16.75%) medicine (8.00%). increased disproportionately (p= 0.0037), document (p <0.001), (p<0.001) last years.
